Zombie Torch video

I had heard about Zombie Torch as far back as 1970. I finally went looking for it in 2011.

Graffiti Bridge video

Known by many names, Graffiti Bridge is now gone, replaced by a new span. Also known as White Bridge, Puerto Rican Bridge, and Frankenstein Bridge.

Wrapping the story up...

There also was the story of The Blood House. A supposed witch lived in the now burned down home.
She was said to hex people or abduct children.
Mobsters were also supposed to have disposed of bodies in abandoned mine shafts in the area.
I think that I have covered this fairly completely.

New Covert's Crossing Bridge.

This is the new Covert's Crossing Bridge including an aerial view.

Covert's Crossing Bridge

One other area of interest is the Covert's Crossing Bridge. It is downstream from Hilltown Bridge on Brewster Road. There are multiple stories about this haunting. One story is that newlyweds were on the one lane bridge at night. Their horse drawn buggy was hit by a car. The bride was decapitated and the groom's body wound up in the river, never to be found. A second tale is that a girl was killed in the 1940's on the bridge returning home from the prom. She may have driven off of the bridge during a storm. She will appear at midnight on the bridge, in her white prom dress. The third mentions a ghost of a railroad worker who fell from his train and was also decapitated. Supposedly you park in the middle of the bridge at midnight, turn off your headlights and a ghost like image or ghosts will appear. A cult is said to hang out in this area so be warned. This is a photo of the original Covert's Crossing Bridge.

Zombie Torch AKA Eternal Flame

Walk across the bridge and watch for a path on your left. Take the path back 100 feet or so. You will see Zombie Torch AKA The Eternal Flame. This is some type of oil well with a gas valve release. Legend has it that if you light it, the Hook Man or the Bridge People, will come to get you. The Bridge People may have been a family that once lived near here. The family had water on the brain and wanted to live in seclusion.

Head back to Hillsville Road...turn left...

Death comes to Zombie Land at Coffee Run.

Along the gravel road will be a culvert to your right.  In 2000, William Monday, 20 years old, along with 2 friends, killed William's 12 year old girlfriend (not a typo), Shannon Kos, with a knife, and dumped her body here and set it on fire. This stream is Coffee Run.

Make a left turn onto Hillsville Road.

Turn left onto Hillsville Road. After about 1/8th of a mile, the road makes a sharp right.
Look for the gravel road to your left and park.

Another photo of the Killing Fields.

Here is another photo of the Killing Fields.

Crossing over the Hilltown Bridge.

Once you cross over Hilltown Bridge, you come to a T intersection. Turning left will put you onto Hillsville Road.
A right turn will take you onto East River Road.
To the left of East River Road lie the Killing Fields where Hellhounds can be encountered or heard as well as screams or gunshots heard.

New Hilltown Bridge

This photo is of the new bridge. Legend has it that ghost lights appear under this bridge.

Hilltown Bridge

Then we head down Churchill Road. You will first cross railroad tracks where a ghost train may be heard. Then you cross Hilltown Bridge which is over the Mahoning River. This picture is the original bridge.

We start our journey...

We start our journey into Zombie Land. Zombie Land is located along Pennsylvania
Route 224, near the town of Hillsville, PA.
Our first stop is the old St. Lawrence church which no longer serves as a church.

The Virgin Mary Statue greets you. If her hands are clasped in prayer, it is not safe to enter.
If her hands are apart, it will be safe to enter.
Supposedly there is a glowing tombstone in the cemetary.
I could not figure out which one it is supposed to be.

Start here: Zombie Land, Hillsville, PA

This Blog is best read by starting at the Home page and then going to each successive newer post. That way it tells a story.

With this group, my intent was to gather as much information as possible into one spot/place. This is for educational purposes only. I am hoping that I have not used anybody's photos or information that would mind. I have supplemented historical photos with those of my own.
I had heard about this area as a teen but was never able to learn much about it. Forty years later, scattered information began to appear on the internet. I spent hours researching this and collecting the information from many sources. What fascinates me about this area is how intricate the legend has become. It does not seem to be based upon many facts however, but it is a spooky area, well deserving to live on in legend. The tale needs to survive in one place. That is all that I wish for.
